Frustrated by the rise of greenwashing, she decided to take action. Before launching charly, she had already built two sustainability-driven startups, grounded in real-world impact.

With charly, Nina is now developing a new class of materials by combining biochar and recycled plastics – creating a carbon-negative alternative that performs like standard polymers across a wide range of applications.

The problem charly is solving is the lack of scalable, truly climate-positive materials in today’s supply chains. While many “green” options still rely on fossil-based inputs or complex recycling systems, charly uses biochar made from waste biomass to lock away carbon that would otherwise return to the atmosphere and integrating it into high-performance materials. This enables companies to decarbonize products and supply chains – without compromising function, aesthetics, or manufacturability.
